Le Dieu du Carnage

This poster was made for a local theatre [Teater Ibsen] in Skien, to promote a play titled Blodig Alvor – an adaptation of the play Le Dieu du Carnage by Yasmina Reza.

Unfortunately, this design was refused by the client, but we are still very happy with the result, and therefore decided to post it here. If you happen to be in Skien at the time the play is being shown, go see. It’s on this autumn.

New office!

We recently – suddenly – moved into a new studio in Rathkes gate 7, together with with the talented designers at Sølv. It’s a pleasure to be out and about.

« The modern designer is unthinkable without the life-support system of the studio. »

– Studio Culture, Unit Editions (2009)

Let’s hope that’s true.

Twenty. Twelve.

Happy 2012, everyone.

KK update

In November, we presented the logo for Kragerø Kunstskole with great response from the committee. We will continue our collaboration, developing their graphic identity over the coming months.

The mark is loosely based upon the typeface Mensch by Lost Type. The letters were redrawn with sharp 90 degree angles (completely non existent in the original typeface) and more curved corners for a matching contrast.

The idea is to have a logo that can easily fit into an already very established market, communicating its full name, but simultaneously being unique. On close inspection, its details are obvious, but further away they seem almost non-present.

To further add to the school’s wide range of courses, we intentionally ignored defining a specific colour-scheme, meaning any two combinations are allowed (one for the logo, and one for the background). Whether it will be used consequently throughout the identity, or just occasionally, is yet to be decided.

Kragerø Kunstskole

We are proud to announce that we are in the process of working with Kragerø Kunstskole in developing their first logo.

The newly founded art school will be opening its doors, welcoming the first group of students in August 2012. They will offer two-year courses in land art, drawing, video/ performance, sculpture, glass/ ceramics, concept/ installation art to name a few.

Updates will come.

Mixing is Mixing

During its first months of existence, Mixing has been preparing for the real world. 2011/12 will be an exciting year for us, and through this blog we aim to post updates closely related to our work process and ongoing projects.

We are now recruiting (clients, that is).

Game-invasion

An article on the current state of video game development and its relation to graphic design – authored by one half of Mixing – was published on Grafill’s website in February. Unfortunately, for you English-only types, it only exists in Norwegian.

« A tremendous amount of content pumped through the media today has its goal mere comforting, confirming and cocooning. We gravitate toward the music we already like, the morals we already know, the characters who behave predictably »
